WHY

THE POST-CANCER BLACK HOLE
Navigating life after cancer treatment, is like stepping into uncharted territory. During treatment, you’re supported and monitored, but once it ends, a new phase begins. It’s not as straightforward as it seems to pick up where you left off. This phase, often referred to as the “post-cancer black hole,” is characterized by a noticeable dip in endurance and strength, leaving you feeling less energetic than before. It’s common to feel more emotionally vulnerable, and others might mistakenly think you’re fully recovered.

Remember, you’re not alone if you find yourself grappling with exhaustion, questioning the duration of this phase, or adapting to what feels like a new normal.

“I was convinced that I wouldn’t fall into that black hole everyone talks about. But after the whirlwind of treatments, it turned out that recovering was much harder and took much more time than I had expected. When I received help from Janneke, that’s when I truly started making progress in my recovery.” – a patient that wants to remain anonymous

FATIGUE
Feeling tired is an expected aftermath of cancer and its treatments. During or after cancer treatment, 60% to 90% of people experience extreme fatigue. Most survivors describe post-cancer fatigue as a profound exhaustion that can be constant or fluctuate between high and low energy phases. It’s more intense than typical tiredness and can make even simple tasks seem monumental. The fatigue often takes you by surprise. Its intensity can significantly limit your daily life. Sometimes even the smallest effort feels overwhelming.

Chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery leave lasting effects, and ongoing treatments like immunotherapy can add to this fatigue. It’s important to recognize that about 20% to 40% of survivors experience prolonged, intense fatigue.

THE PATH TO RECOVERY
The increasing number of cancer survivors highlights the importance of the post-treatment period. About one-third of people will experience cancer, many will survive and face the challenge of rebuilding their lives

The human body has an incredible capacity for healing. With the right guidance and timely interventions, fatigue and reduced fitness don’t have to be permanent. Let’s embark on this journey together, where I’ll guide you through steps to reclaim your energy and vitality.
